Eyelash Extensions

What is it?

Lash extensions are semi-permanent, synthetic lashes that are applied to your natural lashes with lash adhesive. They are not the same as strip lashes. Unlike strip lashes, eyelash extensions are designed to be a long-lasting solution to beautifying and enhancing your natural lashes. When one has eyelash extensions, there is no need to wear mascara. There are different looks to choose from that compliment your personal style. You can choose longer lashes, fuller lashes, or extravagant lashes.

How to prepare (pre-treatment)

Before arriving at your appointment, you must remove all eye makeup and mascara. If you wear contact lenses, you will have to bring a case and solution to store them during your treatment. Contacts can be reapplied once your treatment is complete.

Will eyelash extensions ruin my real lashes?

No, lash extensions should not ruin your natural lashes. The only way natural lashes can become damaged from lash extension is if they are applied incorrectly (our lash expert has been lashing for over 4 years) or if they have been played with and pulled out, without them naturally falling out. Keep in mind that with the natural lash growth cycle we shed 3 to 5 natural lashes every day, this is normal. When the natural lash falls out, the extension attached will fall out as well.

Aftercare/ Post treatment

Brush your eyelashes every morning and every night – Using a clean spoolie brush, brush through your lash extensions. Doing this will keep them looking neat and beautiful. Brushing your lashes also breaks down dust or pollen on the lashes which can actually lead to an eye infection.
Don’t pick at your lashes – Your eyelashes may weaken and fall out if you pick at your lashes, resulting in bald patches along your lash line. If this happens an infill is necessary to restore them.
Sleep on your back – If you are a tummy or side sleeper, you get to shift your sleeping the first night as the lashes are susceptible to becoming misshapen or bend if you sleep on them. Throughout the course of wearing lashes, it is recommended to avoid sleeping on your face.
Steam rooms, sunbeds and saunas must be avoided for at least 48 hours after the lashes are applied. This results in sweating which may loosen the lashes.
For the first 24 hours moisture/water should be avoided; this includes in the shower and when cleansing your face. The adhesive must have time to dry without any moisture added to it.

How long does it last?

Eyelash extensions remain in place for the natural lash cycle. For that reason lash extensions are considered semi permanent. Typically every 60 to 90 days a person’s natural eyelash falls out and is replaced with a new eyelash. Touch-ups/fills are necessary to be done every two to three weeks to keep them full and beautiful because of the lash cycle.

Possible Side Effects

The main risks/side effects associated with eyelash extensions may be: skin irritation of the eyelid, swelling, temporary or permanent loss of eyelashes, infection of the eyelid or cornea. If any of these occur, please have your lashes removed by your lash technician and seek medical attention. The glues that are used for eyelash extensions include ingredients and chemicals that may be irritating or harmful. If you have a reaction to the glue, you may experience side effects within the first two or three days of the treatment.
