Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is a neuromodulator that is injected into a muscle causing weakness of that muscle. This then prevents the muscle from contracting and causing wrinkles.
Botox is perfect for those looking to reduce and smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It offers the perfect non-invasive, fast-acting solution to revitalizing skin. By temporarily weakening these muscles, botox creates younger and smoother looking skin and protects the collagen layer from additional damage.

How does it work?

It is injected into a muscle causing weakness of that muscle. This then prevents the muscle from contracting and causing wrinkles.

Am I a good candidate?

The best candidates for Botox treatments are those over the age of 18 who are physically healthy, not pregnant or breastfeeding and those without autoimmune/neurological disorders. This information will be discussed during the initial health history consultation.

How to prepare (pre-treatment)

Come to your treatment with a clean face. Avoid alcohol, Advil, Tylenol, Aspirin and vitamins a few days prior to treatment to reduce risk of bleeding and bruising. Do not stop prescribed medication without consulting with the injector.

What does it feel like?

Botox is injected superficially causing minimal discomfort. When the injection is taking place, you may feel a slight stinging at the injection site.

Post treatment and aftercare

Results will take 3-10 days. You must remain upright, avoid exercises, excessive sweating, tanning and bending for 4 hours after treatment.

How many sessions are required?

The effects last about 3-12 months, depending on the area you are treating, at which time re-treatment is appropriate.

Possible Side Effects

Treatment with neurotoxins can result in a temporary droop of one eyelid which can last 2-3 weeks but can sometimes last longer. Redness, swelling and tenderness can happen at the site of injection which may last up to a few days. Transient headaches can happen after injection in a small number of individuals. Temporary double or blurred vision can happen and can last up to a few months but is very rare. There is also risk of infection but is exceptionally low with this treatment. Each client requires different amounts of neurotoxin in different areas and therefore may not be satisfactory after initial injection and may require a touch up.
